What Verse is it? 3:16

I was always taught in school that the easiest way to remember something is to relate it to something you know very well. This, in turn, will “trigger” your mind to recall memories that has been stored in the outer limits of your brain. I use this technique to remember Scripture.

The most quoted passage of Scripture is John 3:16. It states:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life.”

When the Bible was written, there were no Chapters and Verses. They were inserted into Greek manuscripts of the New Testament in the 16th century. Robert Stephanus was the first to number the verses within each chapter, his verse numbers entering printed editions in 1551 (New Testament) and 1571 (Hebrew Bible).

If John 3:16 has so much significance, I wondered if similar chapters and verses in the New Testament also were worthy of remembering. I believe they are.

Matthew 3:16: “When Jesus came out of the water the Spirit of God came upon Him.”

Mark 3:16: “These are the 12 (Apostles) he chose: Simon (whom Jesus called Peter); James and his brother John, the sons of Zebedee; Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus, Simon (the Patriot), and Judas Iscariot.

Luke 3:16: “I baptize you with water, but someone is coming who is much greater than I am…He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

Acts 3:16: “It was the power of His name (Jesus) that gave strength to this lame man. What you see now was done by faith in His name: it was faith in Jesus that made him well.”

Romans 3:16: “They (sinners) leave ruin and destruction wherever they go.”

1 Corinthians 3:16: “Surely you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you!”

2 Corinthians 3:16: “His (Moses) veil was removed when he turned to the Lord.”

Galatians 3:16: “God made His promises to Abraham and his descendant (Jesus).”

Ephesians 3:16: “I ask God from the wealth of His glory to give you power through His Spirit to be strong in your inner selves.

Philippians 3:16: (Concerning Spiritual maturity) “Let us go forward according to the same rules we have followed until now.”

Colossians 3:16: “Christ’s message in all its richness must live in your hearts. Teach and instruct one another with all wisdom. Sing psalms, hymns and sacred songs: sing to God with thanksgiving in your hearts.”

1 Timothy 3:16: “No one can deny how great is the secret of our religion. He appeared in human form, was shown to be right by the Spirit, and was seen by angels. He was preached among the nations, was believed in throughout the world, and was taken up to heaven.”

Hebrews 3:16: “Who were the people who heard God’s voice and rebelled against Him? All those were led out of Egypt by Moses.”

James 3:16: (Talking about worldly wisdom) “Where there is jealousy and selfishness, there is also disorder and every kind of evil.”

1 Peter 3:16: “Keep your conscience clear, so that when you are insulted those who speak evil of your good conduct, as followers of Christ, will become ashamed of what they say.”

2 Peter 3:16: “There are some difficult things in his letters which ignorant and unstable people explain falsely, as they do with other passages of Scriptures. So they bring on their own destruction.

2 Timothy 3:16: “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living.”

1 John 3:16: “This is how we know what love is: Christ gave His life for us. We too, then, ought to give our lives for our brothers!”

Revelation 3:16: “But because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am going to spit you out of my mouth.”
