REWARDS

“Happy are you when people insult you and persecute you and tell all kinds of evil lies against you because you are my followers.  Be happy and glad, for a great reward is kept for you in heaven.”  (Matthew 5: 11-12)

The concept of receiving rewards in heaven is one that the Christian seldom thinks about, but should!  Throughout the Bible, we are guaranteed rewards in heaven for the work we do, on earth, for the Lord.

Those who think that heaven is going to be a boring place, where Saints sit around and play harps all day, are in for a big surprise.  Heaven will be the most fun and exciting place that you could ever imagine.  It will be filled with infinite reward ceremonies.

Millions of angels and fellow believers will burst into song and praise at each ceremony.  It will be like standing in the middle of a million Super Bowls and you are the halftime show.  As a believer, you should look forward to this and strive to gain for yourself as many rewards as possible.

Let me make it clear that your belief determines where you will spending eternity (only through faith can we gain salvation) and your behavior determines how you will be spending eternity.

There are numerous rewards for believers mentioned in Scripture.  They include:

  • Giving to the Poor (Matthew 19:21)

  • Being Persecuted for Christ’s sake (Matthew 5:11)

  • Helping a Needy Person (Matthew 6:3)

  • Praying in Private (Matthew 6:6)

  • Working for the Lord in all we do (Colossians 3:23)

  • Obeying the Judgements of the Lord (Psalms 19:11)
